I cannot explain Ross' position, except that for what I've read from his works in the Atlantic, he's actually very overrated as a columnist.
The better question has always been "Why do Conservative Republicans hate fellow Republicans?"
Ross isn't the problem: Rush is. When the 'Leader' of the GOP declares moderates are lacking principles, you know it's a war on. My response to Rush is right here - http://reformamendment.blogspot.com/2009/11/moderates-have-principles.html - and maybe you might critique it...
